Practical Digitalization Examples for the Tourism Sector: Digiwise’s New Educational Videos on the Visit Estonia Platform

Author: Elo Gaver

The tourism sector — like all other industries — is in constant transformation. Digitalizing services, using data intelligently and automating processes are becoming increasingly important. To help companies take purposeful steps on their digital journey, Digiwise consultants, Visit Estonia, and the Estonian Business and Innovation Agency (EIS) have created a six-part series of practical educational videos.

The production of the videos was supported by the European Union to help tourism companies increase their level of digitalization and reduce manual data entry.

1. Why is it important to collect high-quality data from business processes?

In this video, Lauri Antalainen explains why data is essential for the growth of a tourism business and how it is transformed into information, knowledge, and ultimately, wisdom.
The video explains the difference between operational and decision-making data, the stages of data value creation, and offers practical advice on how to start systematic data collection.

2. How to plan digitalization and evaluate its success?

The goal of digitalization is not simply to implement new software but to achieve real business change.
This video explains how to set meaningful goals, plan the stages of a digitalization project, and measure the actual impact on the company.

3. Managing reservations in accommodation businesses

Manually managing accommodation bookings causes confusion, double bookings, and unnecessary workload.
The video shows how property management systems can automate reservations, reduce the risk of errors, and improve the guest experience.
Olga Luštšik also highlights the importance of integrating these systems with accounting, POS solutions, and online platforms.

4. Upselling additional services and guest check-in

Olga Luštšik maps out common bottlenecks throughout the guest journey — from booking to entering the room.
The video presents automation opportunities at different stages and introduces key solutions such as HotelBuddy, Salbos, Bouk, Duve, and Oaky.
It also demonstrates how to calculate the impact of upselling on revenue and time savings.

5. Five most common problems in document management

In many tourism businesses, documents are stored on employees’ computers, in emails, on paper, or simply in people’s memory — leading to risks and confusion.
In this video, Olga Luštšik explains how cloud-based document management makes work more secure, faster, and more transparent, and what tools tourism companies most commonly use.

6. Room rental and increasing occupancy

Why do seminar rooms, saunas, or gym spaces often remain unused?
In this video, Olga Luštšik explains how self-service options, automated booking, and accommodation management systems can increase the sales of additional services, reduce manual work, and improve occupancy rates.

Digiwise is ready to support tourism companies that wish to begin their digitalization journey or give an extra push to processes already underway.
If the topics covered in these videos resonated, Digiwise can help assess opportunities and support the planning and implementation of digitalisation initiatives.
